Thursday, October 25th, 6-9pm
Wieden+Kennedy (224 NW 13th Ave, Portland, OR)
Ignite is coming to Portland! Share burning ideas.
If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers. Topics range all over the map - from straight-up tech to creative arts to hobbies to general knowledge topics. Ignite Portland on October 25th will the first in an ongoing series of Ignite events in Portland and we invite you to be part of it.
We have a confirmed date and venue for the first Ignite Portland event! Thursday, October 25, 2007, at Wieden+Kennedy (224 NW 13th Ave, Portland, OR) from 6PM to 9PM, and is free for all. The W+K space is amazing - many thanks to Renny Gleeson and everyone at W+K for being willing to host the event.
If you’re interested in getting a taste of Ignite, take a look at the talk “How to Buy a New Car” by Rob Gruhl at Ignite Seattle:

We need your help to make Ignite Portland a fantastic event. Here’s what you can do…
1) If you plan to attend, please add yourself to the Ignite Portland Upcoming page as an attendee. This will help us get a more accurate attendance count and plan accordingly for food and drinks:
http://upcoming.yahoo.com
2) Forward this blog post on to people that may have an interest in attending, blog it, Twitter it, invite your Facebook friends, however you connect on the Internet! As we have done little marketing of the event (so far), assume that your local social network doesn’t know about it yet. All are invited - this is not a tech-specific event, although many of the presentations will likely be tech-related (some will not - as the example talk above represents).
3) Grab the promotional graphic from the right nav of the Ignite Portland web site, add it to your own site or blog, with a link back to Ignite Portland. You can also just point to the promotional graphic using HTML:
http://www.igniteportland.com
4) Are you interested in being a presenter? Add you idea to the Ignite Portland Presenters page as a blog comment, as we will be reviewing idea submissions shortly:
http://www.igniteportland.com
5) Help identify sponsors. Intel and Jive Software are already on-board as sponsors, and W+K, of course, providing the venue. We are looking for additional sponsors to cover food, drinks, and signage. This is a not for profit event. 100% of sponsor dollars are for printing and refreshment costs.
We hope to see you at Ignite Portland! It’s going to be a blast.

Sphere: Related ContentDuring September 6th - 7th the inVergence Conference will take place at the Gerding Theater in the Pearl. As described on their website, “inVerge 2007 is an immersive 2 to 4-day experience…[it] focuses on emerging interactive convergence [invergence] dynamics manifesting as various global business trends including: media platform integration, brand integration, collective intelligence, participatory culture and mass collaboration”.
Invergence. It’s a new word. I’ve never heard of it. So I recommend you read up their blog post describing the ethos and spirit behind invergence. In short, the conference is about digital technology and how we interact with it and each other.
Once inside the conference, you can expect it to be run unlike a typical conference. All attendees will be present in one space for each confirmed speaker. Those in attendance will be able to give immediate feedback to the speaker through the use of these vintage and aptly named Perception Analyzers. No, they won’t read your mind or aid in the reading of others
Registration fees to attend inVerge 2007 start at $595. But, this registration fee also gives you access to two other amazing events happening in Portland; PICA’s Time-Based Art festival and MusicFestNW! Join inVerge’s email list to find out when tickets to this innovative tech conference go on sale.
